This course covers SAP Build, the integrated low-code/no-code platform from SAP SE, for agile application development and business process automation. The course primarily focuses on visual data modeling, user interface design (app development), workflow control, and robotic process automation (RPA) using SAP Build , as well as seamless integration with core SAP systems (SAP S/4HANA).
First, the theoretical foundations of low-code architecture, visual programming, process automation, and system integration in the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) are presented in detail. Complementing the theoretical introduction, the learned material is then applied practically to a live system through the analysis of case studies. This allows the acquired theoretical knowledge to be applied and reinforced in practice.
The case studies are conducted on a modern SAP training system. The datasets used are based on the GBI S/4HANA system (Global Bike Inc.), which represents a fully developed model company. This model is based on a standard SAP S/4HANA system and provides, among other things, the company structure and operational data basis for carrying out extensive extension scenarios in the SAP Build system. Participants learn how to use the SAP Build platform with the modern, Fiori-UX-based user interface (SAP Build Lobby).
The course consists of two parts:
Part I: SAP Build Apps – Low-Code Application Development
In the first part of the course, you will learn how to create mobile and web-based applications without writing traditional programming code. You will begin by defining data models and logic in the backend using the integratedVisual Cloud Functions.Data for your frontend applications will then be made available in SAP Build via an intuitive file interface and integration with an SAP S/4HANA system using OData services. You will use the data structures created in SAP Build to design your own custom user interfaces (UIs) using drag-and-drop functionality. The focus is on creating your own applications and extensions within the SAP ecosystem without requiring any programming knowledge (low-code). You will utilize various screen components, variable types, formulas, and visual logic paths that SAP Build Apps offers for delivering dynamic applications. You will learn about and apply the functions for tabular and graphical data representation and data entry within the system.
Part II: SAP Build Process Automation – Intelligent Workflows and RPA
In the second part of the course, you will focus on the automation of business processes. You will again create your own process model, which will serve as the basis for defining automated workflows. This section of the course focuses on workflow control, robotic process automation (RPA), and data validation. Tasks in this section include creating approval workflows, processing large amounts of data using automated loops, defining decision rules (decision tables), and using RPA bots to automate repetitive user input. Furthermore, advanced automation concepts and the structuring of complex, interconnected process steps will be covered. This course unit concludes with the integration of your own applications previously developed in SAP Build Apps.
Learning Targets
Upon completion of this course, you will possess in-depth theoretical knowledge of the SAP Build platform, its technical aspects based on SAP BTP, the development of visual cloud backends , and the methodology for creating no -code applications and automated workflows. After completing the course, you will be fundamentally able to navigate an SAP Build environment independently. Specifically, you will have knowledge and skills in the following functional areas:
- Administration and project collaboration in the SAP Build Lobby
- Visual data modeling and backend creation (Visual Cloud Functions)
- Use of SAP Build Apps to create native web and mobile applications (UI design, logic runtime, variable control)
- Use of SAP Build Process Automation (workflow design, approval processes, RPA bot development, decision rules)
- Form and data validation
- Fundamentals of SAP Build Work Zone for creating business sites, as well as SAP Joule and generative AI agents in development
- Integration with SAP source systems (SAP S/4HANA via OData)
As a course participant, you will learn how to use the various components of the SAP Build ecosystem and integrate them within complex low-code and automation scenarios. You will first grasp the theoretical foundations and then work intensively on case studies based on integrated business processes. This will enable you to understand the fundamental workings of a modern citizen developer platform so well that you can quickly familiarize yourself with the specific environment of an unfamiliar SAP Build project.
