For Michael Burkard, the journey into the world of SAP began in the winter semester of 2012/2013 with the course “Integrated Business Processes with SAP ERP (TERP10)” offered by erp4students. Looking back, he describes this decision as an important foundation for his career in the SAP ecosystem. “I’m very grateful that you gave me, as a student with a limited budget, the opportunity to get to know SAP back then.”
At the same time as he joined erp4students, Michael Burkard was writing his diploma thesis at Heraeus on organizational development within the SAP line organization. After completing his thesis, he applied for an SAP trainee program at the company – with a small advantage, as it turned out.
“As part of the trainee program, obtaining the TERP10 certification was required. Thanks to erp4students, I already had a head start, which may even have helped me secure the position.”
Today, Michael Burkard looks back on nearly 13 years of experience in the SAP environment. His professional focus has primarily been in logistics, particularly in recent years as an in-house consultant for SAP Transportation Management.
Even later in his career, he had several opportunities to participate in official SAP training programs. Nevertheless, he particularly highlights the practical structure and long-term format of the erp4students courses.
“The SAP trainings are certainly good, but because your program runs throughout an entire semester, it is much better suited for getting started and building knowledge – with exercises, practical examples, and a tutor who truly understands the subject.”
Alongside his professional career, Michael Burkard is now actively involved in sharing knowledge within the SAP community. Together with a colleague, he launched the blog scmtms.de in 2025, where they share their expertise on SAP Transportation Management.
“We think it’s great to pass on the knowledge we’ve accumulated.”
